Bird watching hot spots are abundant near Fountain City, WI

Birdwatchers are afforded wonderful opportunities to view migrating waterfowl in the spring and the fall, including tundra swans, diving ducks, mergansers and cormorants. Fountain City is a great place to see eagles, birds and other wildlife.

Take a pedal down the Mississippi River on the Great River State Trail. Enjoy 24 miles of the most beautiful scenery in the Midwest. This 24-mile trail travels through prairies and backwaters of the upper Mississippi River valley. Built on an abandoned Chicago-Northwestern railroad line, the trail has a finely crushed limestone surface suitable for walking and bicycling for much of the year and snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.

Merrick Park is located along the lazy Mississippi River north of Fountain City, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home for egrets, herons, muskrats and otters.
